Shooting a wedding at The National Botanic Gardens of Wales has been on my radar for a long time and when I met Nicole for the first time and she told me about her venue, I knew I had to be the Photograoher for her and Ma’afu.

Nicole is from new Zealand and Ma’afu is Tongan and they’re here in the UK as Ma’afu is contracted to The Ospreys so their wedding was a very intimate one and perfectly personal – it was beautiful.

They both got ready at home and as Nicole had the finishing touches of her make-up applied by her friend Beth Royle, Ma’afu headed off to The Botanic Gardens to meet their guests. It was a chilly day for a June wedding but this is Wales after all and it least the rain stayed away because they had their ceremony outside in the grounds. Nicole’s Dad proudly walked her to the service and the ceremony got under way.

After the ceremony we went around the grounds with Nicole & Ma’afu’s children Oli (Olivia) and Leon as they wanted lots of family photos with the children. We couldn’t go into the inside part of the gardens due to a concert that was being performed but we had plenty of photo opportunities around the grounds to shoot lots of beautiful photos.

We headed over to the gallery where a stunning 3 course meal was served, and speeches followed afterwards from Ma’afu, Nicole’s Dad and Ma’afu’s Sister. I felt very fortunate to be part of such an intimate experience. After the speeches they cut the cake and then everyone was invited back the newlyweds house in Swansea for a house party – what a fantastic way to end such a wonderful day. I didn’t go back to their house but I heard from Nicole it was a very big party and there was lots of sleeping involved the next day! Congratulations to you both!
